Who it's for
Creators who've outgrown a budget action camera and want DSLR-adjacent image quality for vlogging, sports, or travel content in a rugged, waterproof body.
Overview
The Osmo Action 4 pairs a large 1/1.3" sensor with DJI's HorizonSteady stabilization for footage that stays level even through crashes and flips. 10-bit D-Log M color gives real grading room in post, and the direct Bluetooth link to a DJI Mic 2 means clean audio without a separate recorder. It's built for creators who've outgrown a budget action cam and want image quality closer to a real camera in a waterproof, mountable body.
Pros
- Large 1/1.3" sensor gives noticeably better low-light footage than budget action cams
- 360° HorizonSteady keeps horizon level through extreme motion
- 10-bit D-Log M color gives real flexibility for color grading
- Direct wireless mic pairing skips a separate audio recorder
Cons
- Significantly more expensive than entry-level action cameras
- DJI Mic 2 direct-connect feature requires buying that mic separately
What buyers say
2,158 ratings average 4.6/5, with 86% at 5 stars. Reviewers consistently highlight the low-light sensor and HorizonSteady stabilization; the small 1-star share mostly involves individual unit or accessory compatibility issues rather than the core camera.
Huge step up from my old action cam
Upgraded from a budget action camera and says the low-light difference alone justifies the price, with HorizonSteady making handheld mountain biking footage look gimbal-smooth.
OsmoAudio is a game changer
Pairs it directly with a DJI Mic 2 and says skipping a separate audio recorder for vlogging saved a ton of post-production sync work.
Great camera, battery drains fast in cold
Loves the footage quality but notes the 160-minute battery life drops noticeably in cold weather, so they carry a spare for full-day shoots.
